Minor wounds including cuts, scrapes, and punctures are common and generally manageable at home with proper care. The primary goals are to stop bleeding, prevent infection, and promote healing.
Immediate wound care includes rinsing with clean water, applying gentle pressure to stop bleeding, and covering with a sterile bandage. Signs of infection — increasing redness, warmth, swelling, or pus — typically appear 24 to 72 hours after injury.
Most minor wounds heal within 7 to 14 days depending on size and location. Keeping the wound moist with antibiotic ointment and covered with a bandage promotes faster healing and reduces scarring.
